How can two guys write such consistently great songs and still have albums worth of great material to just give away to others like it’s nothing?
Seems like a nice problem to be plagued with.
The out-of-print compilation, The Songs Lennon and McCartney Gave Away, isn’t even a complete collection of the songs they gifted to others. You may notice that Badfinger’s “Come And Get It” is missing. As is the McCartney-penned “Six O’Clock” from Ringo Starr’s Ringo, yet Lennon’s “I’m the Greatest” from the same album is included.
Make sure to check this video out. It features portions of these songs preceded by a clip of a Beatles’ demo version. A lot of these songs can be heard by the Beatles on the Anthology and BBC compilations.
