A documentary shot during the 1999’s Ozzfest and only screened at a handful of film festivals in the early 2000s could get a theatrical release soon.

We Sold Our Souls for Rock ‘n’ Roll was helmed by Penelope Spheeris, best known for her three Decline of Western Civilization music documentaries and as the director of Wayne’s World. Artists featured include both the original and then-current lineups of Black Sabbath plus SlipknotGodsmackRob ZombieSystem of a DownSlayerStatic-XFear Factory and Buckethead.

Spheeris worked for three years putting the 90-minute film together, but it never got released. She heard from Sharon Osbourne after it was screened at the Motion Picture Academy Museum in L.A. this summer. She tells the Canadian website The Metal Voice that Sharon — who initially invested a million bucks in the film — has since agreed to help bring it to theaters.

In other news involving Ozzy and Sharon, Ozzy’s original bassist Bob Daisley had some words for them after they called the quality of some early rehearsal tapes he has from when Randy Rhoads was alive “dreadful,” and said it couldn’t be released to the public. Daisley disagrees and points to a snippet from them he posted on at BobDaisley.com to try to prove his point.
